Newcomer 4-member group 2NE1 will release a new album and present yet a new look in July. And this will be the first time they will release an album offline.

2NE1 debuted beginning of May with the song ‘Fire’ which is a digital single. The song is currently one of the hot tracks up on various music charts. And on the 6th, YG Entertainment said, “2NE1 will release a new minialbum beginning of July which will include 6 songs. At first we thought of them releasing this new minialbum this month, but we had to push back the date due to some issues in schedule for MV filming.”

“This will be the girls’ first offline album release. And they will be back with a different look from the strong feeling that ‘Fire’ gives, they will be back more feminine and with new charms.”

Meanwhile, the girls will have their 3rd performance of ‘Fire’ on SBS Inkigayo on 7th June.

Group 2NE1 won 3 awards for Cyworld Digital Music Awards (CDMA).

The group won the ‘Song of the Month’ with the song ‘Lollipop’ sang together with group Big Bang during the 34th CDMA, and then they won ‘Song of the Month’ again and ‘Rookie of the month’ with their debut song ‘Fire’ for the 35th CDMA.

The song ‘Fire’ has also sold a record of 200,000 singles sold on CyWorld.

This is wonderful results delivered considering that the group has not debuted more than a month, and have won song the of the month twice and also rookie of the month.

Meanwhile, the girls will be in Seoul GunGook university on 10th June to perform infront of 800 over fans.

2NE1 will appear on only SBS Inkigayo to appear this week for the 3rd time again.

The group will perform their debut song ‘Fire’ on 7th June on SBS Inkigayo, this is their 3rd consecutive appear only on the show after their debut stage on 17th May.

YG has earlier revealed that even though the girls are newcomers, they will not focus on the number of times they appear on music broadcast programmes but the quality of their performances. And they had set for the girls to appear on music programmes once a week.

But there have been doubts amongst netizens that YG did not choose not to let the girls appear on music shows on KBS and MBC etc but rather YG could not etc.

A YG representative said, “The only way we thought we can let the girls improve on their performance quality is to allow them on music shows only once a week. Plus Inkigayo has shown much interests in 2NE1’s performance and gave us the support we needed for filming and stuff, hence we decided with them. And about the girls not being able to go on KBS and MBC, well with time everyone will know.”

The 4-person girl group 2NE1 revealed their unknown story regarding their group name.

On MBC Radio FM “Park Kyung Lim’s Starry Night,” which aired on the 2nd, the guests 2NE1 told of the painstaking process of choosing group names that were thought of before debut.

2NE1’s members, Park Bom, CL, Gong Min Ji, and Sandara Park said that before the group name of ‘2NE1’ was chosen, ‘Tsunami,’ ‘Cool Chicks,’ ‘Yang Ssa’s Children,’ and ‘YG Girls’ came up as candidates, but in the early morning hours before revealing the group name, it was finally chosen to be “2NE1.”


At the time of first revealing 2NE1’s group name, the group name’s English phonetic transcription was “To Anyone,” but finding out late that there was another singer with the same English phonetic transcription, they changed it to “2NE1.”

Also, 2NE1 passionately sang their debut song Fire, American pop singer Rihanna’s Umbrella, and Big Bang’s We Belong Together live, showing advanced singing ability and receiving high praise from the host Park Kyung Lim and the radio listeners.

2NE1, who even before debut, being called the “Female Big Bang,” garnered great interest from the netizens, acquired 1st on various music sites’ charts with Big Bang and the CM song “Lollipop.” Their debut song, Fire, also received 1st on various online charts in just two days of the song release, showing 2NE1’s real ability that is unlike a new singer that just debuted.

Group 2NE1 has revealed that they take singers Lee Hyori and Um Jung Hwa as their role models.

They were on MBC radio ‘Park Kyung Rim’s Starry Night’ on 2nd June for their first radio show when they were asked, “Which seonbae singer do you want to be like” and the answer was Lee Hyori and Um Jung Hwa. Park Bom has answered Lee Hyori while the rest of the members answered Um Jung Hwa.

And about the males stars they like, Park Bom answered Jang Dong Gun, Sandara Park answered Won Bin, CL answered 1TYM Teddy and MinJi answered Brad Pitt.

The girls also talked a little about the behind story of becoming a singer. Park Bom said, “I was a kid who love and enjoy singing. And in America, my parents sent to me a music university where I studied for 3 years.” Park Bom also shed some tears talking about studying for 3 years at the university and then transitting to be a trainee.

Sandara Park said, “When I heard Seo Taiji’s songs, I wanted to be a singer. Even as I was promoting as an entertainer in the Philippines, I still hold the dream to sing in Korea.”

CL also added, “I had the dream to be a singer after my dad let me listen to singer Lauryn Hill’s music.” Youngest member Gong Minji said, “Through the words of my grandmother Mrs Gong OkJin, we have to be modest on stage.”

Group Super Junior’s ‘It’s you’ had taken 2NE1 off their 2 weeks consecutive #1 position on Mnet to take the #1 place.

Super Junior’s new hit ‘It’s You’ is #1 on Mnet chart for the 4th week of May. And the song is written by E-Tribe who also brought to us hits like So Nyeo Shi Dae’s ‘Gee’ and Lee Hyori’s ‘U-Go-Girl’.

2NE1’s debut hit ‘Fire’ has fallen to #2, but in terms downloads and MV views as compared to ‘It’s You’, it (Fire)has a higher rank.

Super Junior’s ‘Sorry Sorry’ has also stayed on the chart for 12 weeks, at #8. At #5 for the chart is V.O.S ‘큰일이다’, which is #1 on the download charts for the week. The song is from their comeback album.

Also After School’s ‘Dream Girl’ is at #13 up 87 positions on the chart, and is at #7 on the download chart.
